Early Spring Foraging

This is the time of year when I realize all the little things that I didn't know I was missing. Yesterday I heard birds chirping for the first time in months, and I had to pause for a minute and just enjoy it.

This is also the time of year when I am most happy to have my macro lens! Every time I go out in the woods, I end up squatting by the side of the path, getting in some flower's face or examining the little mushrooms on the forest floor.

If there's even a slight breeze, cherry blossom petals cover the ground like confetti.

This season is so short-lived. Soon the trees will have leaves again and these sweet early blossoms will be gone. I'm drying handfuls of flowers every day! This process of life and death has been repeating since the beginning of time, but this particular spring will be commemorated and preserved in my studio for years to come.
