Blue opal necklace

This necklace features a sparkly blue Australian opal, surrounded by hand-formed decorative flourishes. 

These are triplet stones, which means there it is a layer of opal sandwiched between a slice of black stone and a layer of clear quartz. The black backing brings out the color of the opal, and the quartz on top protects it (since opals are very soft and breakable). 

These opals are not hydrophane (porous), and you do not need to worry about color loss or breakage from drying out. 

The pendant and chain have a cool grey patina. There is a variety of colors in this collection of opals, so please see all the pictures for an idea of what to expect.

Materials

This necklace is made entirely of sterling silver. Sterling silver is an alloy of 92.5% silver with 7.5% copper, which is added to make the metal more durable. There is no outer plating- the metal can be polished over and over for a lifetime.
