Cypress trees are a symbol of grief that date all the way back to ancient times in the Mediterranean region. They were planted at burial sites, and they are still used this way in some parts of Europe. Pliny the Elder wrote in the first century AD that cypress boughs were hung on a house to signal that death had taken place within.

In Greek/Roman legend, the first cypress grew from a youth who accidentally killed his beloved pet stag while hunting. The boy asked the gods to let him grieve forever, and Apollo granted his wish by transforming him into a cypress tree.

This pendant was molded from a real cypress cutting and shaped into a teardrop in reminiscence of this story.

Pendant size: 25.5mm tall, 13.5mm wide

Chain length: 18 inches
