This pendant was made with a Victorian wax seal, and it features a portrait of a dog. Dogs were a symbol of loyalty, and other dog seals from this era often included the word "faithful" underneath the image.
This style of seal was a bit of a novelty item in the 1840s- it was a bronze cube with 6 different images you could choose from to press into your wax.
Each necklace is made individually by stamping the seal into wax and then casting the wax in sterling silver. So every one is a little different and has its own organic shape.
Keep in mind that antique wax seals were usually much smaller than modern seals! Check the dimensions and the pictures carefully.
Chain length: 18 inches
Pendant size: appx. 16-18mm across
Materials
This necklace is made entirely of sterling silver. Sterling silver is an alloy of 92.5% silver with 7.5% copper, which is added to make the metal more durable. There is no outer plating- the metal can be polished over and over for a lifetime.
