These fern fossils are roughly 300 million years old! They come from the Mazon Creek fossil beds in Illinois, fossilized after the ferns were buried in mud.
When these fronds first opened up, the Earth was a very different place– the continents were still assembled into Pangea, and while there were plenty of reptiles and amphibians and other animal life, the first dinosaurs had yet to emerge.
I have three specimens in this collection, identified in the second picture. I designed the settings to be like coin holder pendants, with prongs placed carefully around the ferns.
I advise using special care to store this necklace when you're not wearing it! The fossil is more fragile than your average gem, so place it in a soft box or wrap it in cloth to protect it from knocking against hard surfaces.
The pendant hangs from a textured paperclip chain.
