Alder cone necklace

In Germany, alder trees were once said to weep tears of blood if you cut them (or even talk about cutting them!)

Alder bark is silvery grey, but the wood does turn bright rusty orange when you cut it due to the tannins. 

These necklaces are made from real alder cones cast in silver, paired with a tiny drop of blood-red garnet. Each alder cone is unique! 

Both the chain and the alder cone have a patina, with polished highlights.

 Materials

This necklace is made entirely of sterling silver. Sterling silver is an alloy of 92.5% silver with 7.5% copper, which is added to make the metal more durable. There is no outer plating- the metal can be polished over and over for a lifetime.
