This pendant is stamped with an antique wax seal from the 1810's.
The text says "BEWARE" and underneath is an image of a cherub sneaking through some roses with his finger to his lips. Cupid imagery was very popular at the time, and seals from this period often feature Cupid cavorting around and getting into mischief. This seal would have likely been understood as a reminder that love can catch you unawares.
The image was hand-carved during the Regency Era, so it was used in the time of famous writers like Jane Austen and Percy Bysshe Shelley!
I made these necklaces by stamping the seal into wax, and then casting the wax pieces in silver. I did not duplicate the pendants with a mold- they were each stamped individually, so you can expect to see minor differences in each one.
The silver has been darkened to bring out the tiny details, and the chain is oxidized as well. The pendant can be slipped off the chain if you'd like to switch it around to a different style chain.
Pendant size: appx. 17x17mm
